Summary
Mako is hiring our first business developer lead!
We're looking for an enterprise sales leader with experience in selling infrastructure software or AI-powered developer tools to enterprises. You will work directly with the CEO to craft and implement measurable systems and go-to-market motions.
This job is based in New York City. Remote work will be considered for exceptional candidates.
About Mako
Mako is a venture-backed tech startup building an intelligent GPU optimization and deployment platform with two key components.
- MakoOptimize automatically selects and swaps GPU kernels in combination with tuning inference engine (vLLM, SGlang, etc..) hyperparameters to optimize performance
- MakoGenerate writes GPU kernels in CUDA, HIP, and Triton using LLMs
Responsibilities
- Build from 0 to 1
- Identify target accounts, decision‐makers, and technical champions in large enterprises.
- Create a scalable lead‐generation and qualification process (cold outreach, events, partnerships).
- Partner on Strategy
- Work with CEO to define pricing tiers, packaging, and contract structures.
- Develop and refine our sales playbook: discovery questions, demo scripts, objection handling.
- Close Deals & Gather Insights
- Lead full‐cycle sales: from initial outreach and technical demos to contract negotiation and closing.
- Act as the voice of the customer - relay feedback on feature requests, competitive positioning, and go‐to‐market adjustments.
- Implement RevOps Foundations
- Set up and maintain CRM (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce), sales dashboards, and forecasting processes.
- Monitor metrics: pipeline velocity, conversion rates, average deal size, sales cycle length.
Qualifications
- Enterprise Sales Experience
- Proven track record of closing six‐figure (or larger) contracts in infrastructure, developer tools, or AI‐focused software.
- Comfortable navigating multi‐stakeholder deals (engineering, procurement, C-suite).
- Startup DNA
- Hands‐on mentality: you don’t need a full marketing team or SDRs; you’ll prospect, demo, and close yourself.
- Comfortable iterating - metrics may shift weekly based on learnings.
- Experience at a seed‐stage or Series A company (or as a founder) is a strong plus.
- Technical Fluency
- Able to have deep conversations about GPU architectures, AI inference, and developer workflows.
- You don’t have to write code, but you should understand why kernel performance and inference latency matter to an enterprise‐scale AI team.
- Self‐Starter & Communicator
- Resourceful: comfortable with limited data, building relationships via cold outreach, events, or community channels.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability; you’ll be setting your own priorities alongside leadership.
Bonus Points
- Prior founder or early employee at a scaling startup
- Existing network within AI/ML, HPC, or cloud infrastructure teams at Fortune 500 companies
- Familiarity with GPU kernel optimization (CUDA, HIP, Triton) or related inference engines (vLLM, SGlang)
Our Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity package
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage for you and your family
- Remote work option for exceptional candidates
- Generous vacation and paid time off policy
- Modern and comfortable work environment with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities
